Affordable Apartments in Downtown Cedar Rapids

Annex on the Square covers a full city block at 4th Avenue and 5th Street SE, directly across 5th Street from the Cedar Rapids Public Library. More than 90 percent of these affordable apartments in downtown Cedar Rapids are income-restricted through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, and a limited number of market-rate homes are also available. Now managed by Indigo Living, the community offers studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom floor plans.

Layouts range from a 619-square-foot studio to two-bedroom homes of up to 1,126 square feet. One-bedroom plans start at 673 square feet. Apartment features include open-concept kitchens, a pantry, and large closets, and some two-bedroom layouts include a second full bathroom.

NEIGHBORHOOD

Mercy Medical Center and UnityPoint Health St. Luke's Hospital are both within walking distance, and Transamerica's Cedar Rapids offices are a short drive away. Greene Square, the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, and the Paramount Theatre are a short walk from the front door, while NewBo City Market sits less than a mile to the southeast. On select summer Saturdays, the Downtown Farmers Market sets up just a few blocks away.

Shared spaces include a swimming pool with a sundeck, a fitness center, a community clubhouse with complimentary Wi-Fi, and a top-floor lounge and outdoor deck overlooking Greene Square. Inside, every apartment comes with an in-home washer and dryer, along with modern black appliances and a dishwasher. Private balconies are available in select apartments, and the controlled-access building includes elevators and package receiving.
